The Quando was named aafter Quan TI, the famous warrior and god of war to the Chinese.  It is said that on horse back this weapon was used to cut the hooves off of opponents horses.  There is quite a difference in the feel and use of the Quando as compared to the staff or spear in that there is a great deal of weight at the blade end of the stick.  The original Quando is said to have weighed about 275 pounds.  The practice weapon we use is about 10 pounds.  Because of the weight of the Quando, the weapon usually appears slow and stays in constant motion, only stopping when the bladeless end hits the ground.
